Event Support Unit
A used Japanese car in use as an Ambulance here in the UK.
Despite the high cost of transport, the sale of used Japanese cars and other vehicles to other countries is profitable due to the relatively low cost and good condition of the vehicles being exported.
Japan's strict motor-vehicle inspections and high depreciation which make vehicles worth very little in Japan after six years. Strict environmental-protection regulations make vehicle disposal very expensive in Japan. Japan also has very stringent vehicle emission test standards.
Importing rules for the UK are stringent; all vehicles must undergo Individual Vehicle Approval to assure compliance with applicable ECE Regulations or British national equivalents. The speedometer must be converted from kilometres per hour to miles per hour, a rear fog light and unleaded-fuel restrictor installed.
Of course Japan also drive on the left which helps...
The last owner of this car was probably Mr Akio Gorio from Yamiguchi prefecture.
It was manufactured in 1995 and registered here in the UK in March 2003.
