Preparing for sunrise

The colours in the sky just before sunrise are incredible at the moment. Just to the right of the church spire you can see a perfect crescent moon. An hour or so after this was taken, the sun would have been edging it's way up over the horizon directly below where that moon is now. But I went to bed for some much needed beauty sleep and didn't see the sunset. We've got such a privileged viewpoint from our apartment.

At night the colours are also spectacular after sunset but I don't think they compare to the gorgeous layers of colour created by the appearance of the new sun in the morning.

There is nothing wrong with the buildings outside our window but they don't make for great compositions so I under exposed the shot to create silhouettes out of the spire, the tower and the tall tree which sprout up through the horizon, against the vibrant colours of the sky.

I'm fairly happy with this, considering it was such a spontaneous shot having seen the colours in the sky then noticing the stunning shape of the moon.
