Ardnamurchan Lighthouse

View On Black

Ardnamurchan Lighthouse is on the west coast of Scotland and marks mainland Britain's most westerly point.

Built in 1849 by Alan Stevenson, it stands at 36 metres tall and is made of pink granite.

After surviving a treacherously nauseating journey of about two hours to conclude our 30 mile journey there - the roads wind up and down and round the unspoiled breathtaking and rugged landscapes - we climbed the 130 or so narrow curvy stairs to the top and boy was it worth it for the views:

Sharp, rocky coastlines punctuating the untouched, glistening white sandy beaches when looking inward, and the stunning stunning silhouettes of the Scottish Western Isles to be found in an outward direction with a wind that refreshingly but unnervingly knocked us around a bit.

Funnily enough, the design of the lighthouse was inspired by the Egyptians and it's the only Lighthouse in Britain with this Egyptian style.
