Abstract - dark bricks
These bricks were found on the outside of an old pub on Drury Lane, London, while I was out on assignment with my recent Photographing People class. It was at the end of the shoot and I, as usual, was becoming distracted by the architectural photographic potential!
They grabbed my attention because the bricks on the top half were a grey/purple-ish colour and those on the bottom were light blue. Quite interesting at the time, I felt, but there wasn't really enough impact when looking at them on screen: they were quite dull really, didn't have much in the way of texture and were slightly flat on the whole. So I tried them with greyscale, played around with the shadows and curves to bring a bit of depth to the textures and accentuate the shadows and highlights.
I also stuck quite a hefty vignette around it to bring even more enhancements to the textures around the edges and create a bit more of a dark and mysterious feel.
It's quite a simple abstract, but I'm fairly pleased with the end result!
