Mary Shelley, the author of Frankenstein, is interred here in the Shelley family vault in the graveyard of St Peters Church, Bournemouth, along with the heart of her husband, the poet Percy Bysshe Shelley.

Mary Shelley had expressed a wish to be buried with her parents, Mary Wollstonecraft, the feminist philosopher, and William Godwin, one of the founders of theoretical anarchism, but Wollstonecraft and Godwin had died in London and were originally buried in the churchyard of St Pancras Old Church, so Sir Percy and his wife had them exhumed and reburied in Bournemouth.
