The Elephant In the Frame
How is it that I can carefully compose a picture without seeing the elephant in the frame? It was early July in eastern Oregon and this BLM mountainous stretch of landscape was already parched and dry. It was a particularly hot evening and the sun was getting ready to go down. I had spotted the camper and pickup truck down in the valley when I composed this shot... but I was later surprised while processing the photo to discover that there were two massive snow banks nestled up against the face of the mountain. I simply had not seen them when peering through the view finder. I guess the fact that there was snow in a hot, dry landscape didn't connect in my mind. Please tell me that I am not the only one that does this!
