My wife and I spotted this heron perched on a pier support behind the beautiful Fisherman's Village in Punta Gorda, Florida over the Christmas holiday. A dramatic sunset was taking place over the harbor as I slowly worked my way around to be in a position to capture the heron's silhouette against the backdrop of light and color. Meanwhile, the bird kept an eye on me... ready to fly at any moment. As it turned out, this shot was taken only moments before it flew up onto the roof of the mall.
During post processing, I used the adjustment brush in Lightroom 5 to bring out some of the detail in the bird's silhouette (all the more possible when processing RAW images). I thought the effect was rather dramatic.
