SLO Criterium Classic Cycling Festival
Racers speeding by Mission San Luis Obispo de Tolosa 7/20/08.
Method: holding camera still, rotate zoom lens, f/11, 1/50sec.
Unimpressed with many "still" and panning images of the racers that I had taken, I tried a technique that was decribed in a copy of Popular Photography Magazine. To show and get the feeling of motion, zoom or rotate the lens while simultaneously depressng the shutter release.
Of course, the shutter speed needed to be slow enough and I had to rotate of lens barrel fast enough to get this effect. And being in a location where the racers seemed to be coming straight at me at 35 mph also contributed to the end result.
