Hygrophoropsis aurantiaca - the false chanterelle

At first glance this bright yellow mushroom is confusingly similar to the chanterelle, but when you look closely the differences are clear enough. Most notably, the false chanterelle has gills, whereas the true chanterelle has just wrinkles, with a few cross-veins. Also the false chanterelle doesn't quite have the trumpet shape of a fully-grown chanterelle - they can look much more alike when very small though.
