Flash'ard: What makes it tick

Yes the lighting is a bit crap, but it's lighting with a point. The lighting was triggered by the board you see above... So I guess it deserves some strobist info :-)

 

Strobist info: Lit from above by hand held Vivitar 283 with 24mm adapter attached at 64th power. 16 microsecond quench time.

Flash fired and quenched by the board you see above. If you look really close you can see the electrons flowing in the right hand (sync) optoisolator :o)

 

The board is a Jeenode(V4) which is based on the ATmega328p microcontroller. Programmed in C with Arduino 0018 beta. The sync/quench routine is written with direct port access instead of the Arduino library calls as they are far too slow for the kind of response and timing accuracy I require for firing and quenching a flash in 32microseconds (That's approx 1/32 power) or faster.

 

Triggered via a similar board attached to the hotshoe of my D300.

 

You just wait until you see that one... With its LCD display and full menu/config system :-)
