A Sea of Gold
Kebler Pass, Crested Butte, CO
My fiancé and I returned to Kebler pass again this year in hopes of some nicer weather to do some hiking. Not that last year's stormy weather wasn't spectacular for photography. We were excited to spend the day on some trails rather than just driving Kebler Pass. We arrived and were lucky enough to find a nice spot to camp at Horse Ranch Park for the night. Our first hike of the day was up to Beckwith Pass. We had incredible views overlooking the valley, Ruby Peak and the Dyke. After returning from our hike, we spent some time relaxing in the hammock under some gorgeous aspens. It was a picture perfect fall day in Colorado, filled with gorgeous fall color and sunshine. We cooked some dinner before a sunset hike up to this viewpoint. When we arrived a group of guys were already set up with their tripods shooting away. Thankfully, they left the best spot open for me to take. They all chatted back and forth about different gear as one of the guys seemed to be talking to the camera for a youtube video. I really enjoy solitude when I'm out shooting, so the endless conversations from them was a small nuisance. Anyways, the light kept getting better and better as the sun dipped towards the horizon. Just before the light disappeared behind that cloud, I was able to capture this incredible shot as the aspens were absolutely glowing. I love the challenge this time of year trying to pick the perfect time to see the aspens and try to make great images while the color is here for a short amount of time. Hope you enjoy!
