Monochrome
by splatwriter
I grew up with black & white, shooting with a 60s-vintage Yashica Lynx 1000. I don't have that camera anymore (and I wish I did because it had a fantastically sharp and bright lens), but I spent years shooting with it, developing Tri-X and making my own prints. Edward Weston, my favorite photographer, worked almost exclusively in monochrome, and I worked hard to try to see how form and contrast would translate to blacks, whites, and grays. After awhile, I figured out the grays were the important part. Visualizing is easier now with digital equipment, but it still isn't easy. When it comes out, however, it's still a thrill.
