South Keys Shopping Centre, October 2nd, 2012.

On my 28th birthday, October 2nd, 2002, I took a trip to Ottawa South with my mother to have birthday supper at Red Lobster with my sister, who also celebrates her birthday on October 2nd (though she's 3 years younger than I am). At the time, I lived in Pincourt, Quebec, which is near Montreal, and, although I had visited Ottawa many times, I had never really explored Ottawa's suburban sprawl before. Before we had supper, we stopped off at a big box plaza that I now know was South Keys Shopping Centre and I took a set of photos with my Nikon F65 camera in the parking lot, pivoting in order to get enough shots to make a panorama. At the time, it seemed like a silly waste of film, but in a way, it was foreshadowing my life over the next decade.

A little over 2 years later, my parents and I moved to Nepean, in suburban Ottawa, and since then, I have taken many more photos of suburban Ottawa sprawl, I actually came back to the same spot in the South Keys Shopping Centre parking lot on my 32nd birthday, October 2nd, 2006, to take photos for an updated panorama 4 years after taking the photos for the original panorama.

6 years to the day later, or a decade to the day after my very first visit to South Keys Shopping Centre, on my 38th birthday, October 12th, 2012, I came back to South Keys yet again to take a third panorama. Unlike the 2006 one, I decided to only replicate the original panorama and not attempt to do a full 360 degree view. Shall I shoot another panorama here on my 48th birthday, October 2nd, 2022?
