"Rebuilding a New McDonald's".

On Monday evening, my parents had supper at an event, so they were going to stop by the Merivale Road McDonald's in Nepean to pick me up a Southwest Chicken sandwich and fries, only to find it closed and surrounded by a fence.

They said there was a sign that said "Closing February 2009", so, on Wednesday afternoon after work, I decided to walk by there to see what's up. As I suspected, it hadn't gone out of business, it was just closed for renovations, presumably to change it to the current standard McDonald's design, with the rectangular facade, the yellow awnings, and the flattened arch.

It would be a little odd for this McDonald's to have gone out of business, since it's on a major commercial street not that close to any other McDonald's and because it always seemed fairly busy.

Personally, I understand the need for a major corporation to rejuvenate the look of its brand every decade or so, but I'm going to miss the "classic"-style McDonald's roof.

It's also a little annoying for me, as I won't be able to go straight to McDonald's after work once or twice a month to get a Junior Chicken meal, not that I've done that in a couple of months due to the Ottawa bus strike. I mean, I'll still be able to now that the buses are finally coming back this coming Saturday, but I'll have to go out of my way, to either the McDonald's on Baseline or to the in-store McDonald's at the Lincoln Fields Wal-Mart.
