My Shell and Ferrari Motorsport "customized" Nintendo DS Lite.

Even though I already own the Playstation 2 version, I asked for the Nintendo DS version of Ferrari Challenge: Trofeo Pirelli for my birthday (October 2nd), and received it.

I didn't actually have a Nintendo DS at the time, but was going to get one sooner or later, and receiving the game was the final push I needed to get one. I was originally just going to buy a used non-Lite Nintendo DS (a.k.a. "Nintendo DS Phat", as in "fat"), since they can be had for well below $100, but the temptation to get a crimson red DS Lite to compliment the Ferrari game was too tempting for me to resist spending a few dozen more dollars.

It occurred to me as I was walking to the Merivale Road EB Games store that I could further accentuate the handheld Ferrari experience with an ultra-minimalist custom job: just stick a couple of stickers from the free 2008 Shell Ferrari Motorsport sticker set (which can be obtained here, no credit card required).

For this shot, I put the DS on my 1/16th scale radio-controlled Ferrari F430 from Silverlit against a backdrop of my oil pastel drawing of a Ferrari F430.

The DS version of Ferrari Challenge: Trofeo Pirelli "doesn't even compare" to the PS2 version, obviously (I haven't played the PS3 version), but the graphics still are nice and smooth for a handheld, the handling is as accurate as you can get with the old-fashioned plus-shaped d-pad, and I can't play the PS2 version on the bus or in the waiting room of the Ottawa General Hospital.
