Yao people are an ethnic minority living in Longsheng County, South China. One of their peculiarities is that women cut their hair once in a lifetime, just before getting married. They believe that long hair bring longevity, wealth and good luck.
This lady was looking for customers for lunch at her house. We accepted, looking forward to a warm meal and a shelter from the rain. Before heading to the village, she agreed to show her long black tail, almost two meters longs. She then wrapped it up as in the picture and covered it with a turban.
The secret of her thick scalp, she said, is to wash it only with water without using shampoo. "I wish I knew that several years ago", I told her while rubbing my bold head.
