Halfway To Heaven (Yosemite Half Dome Sunset)
Hello Everyone! I know, I know. It's been a while, a looooooooooooooong while since I've posted any new work. As many of you know I've been hard at work getting The Aperture Academy open for business. Well, I'm happy to report that we are now open and things are going very well.
Our grand opening celebration will be held on December 5th from 6-10pm so if you're in the San Jose California area please stop by for:
- Live music (classical guitarists)
- Great food and drinks
- Give-a-ways (classes, workshops and other prizes!)
- Meet the Aperture Academy staff (Kelly, Brian, Scott, Jeanette, Jim and Scott). Yes, we already have TWO Scott's. Go figure.
- And, meet our guest speakers from the Snow Leopard Trust, an organization that I work with and am very passionate about
So, many of you may know I recently spent two weeks in and around Colorado, as well as the desert southwest (four corners). I've got many images to share but not yet enough time to get through them all. Soon, I promise.
Then, this past weekend, he Aperture Academy held the Yosemite Fall Workshop and it was one of the best groups we've ever had. AND, to top it off the sunset on the first night, from Glacier Point, was one of the best I've personally ever seen...and I've seen a lot of great sunsets.
It's rare that I shoot while on a workshop, as I'm so busy working with students, but I could not pass up the opportunity when I saw how amazing the conditions were looking. After I got everyone prepared for the scene that was about to unfold, I setup my gear and within moments the show began. What was so amazing about this sunset was that it eluminated the ENTIRE sky...from as far as you could see from horizon to horizon. And to top it off, the light from the setting sun was still stiking Half Dome which provided so much detail in the granite face of the timeless monolyth.
As the colorful light show faded, we packed up our gear and made the drive back to the Yosemite Lodge where we served up a crockpot full of slow roasted pork taco's, chips and a cold beer. It was a perfect way to end a long day of shooting and reflect on the great sights we had captured.
