Bitter Lettuce

Bitter Lettuce is a plant related to common Lettuce that has been introduced to North America from Eurasia. It can grow to seven feet high. This plant has been studied as a substitute for opium, and is sometimes called the poor man's opium. Oils and extracts from this plant have sedative affects on rodents.
