Helen Reddy. 1997 by Stephen B Whatley

Australian singer & actress Helen Reddy (1941-2020), who died in Los Angeles at 78 on September 29, in a portrait painted in 1997 by expressionist artist Stephen B. Whatley.

 

Ms Reddy sat for the artist, during one sitting, in her London hotel suite, in Piccadilly, London, during her starring role in the West End production of the musical drama, Blood Brothers.

 

Born in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia in 1941 Helen Reddy moved to the USA in the 1960s and had a string of music hits, including her feminist anthem from 1972, I Am Woman - which was featured in the film, Sex In The City 2, 38 years later in 2010.

 

Reddy's eclectic career included writing and film roles including Airport 1975 (1974) and Disney's Pete's Dragon (1977)- to which she brought her gift of singing.
