Expressionist painter Stephen B. Whatley on location in central London, UK, on Saturday July 6 2019, immersed in painting the the inspirational headquarters of Sainsbury's at 33 Holborn, London; as the company celebrates its 150th anniversary this year.
Whatley, whose work has been published in TIME, has a history of painting architectural landmarks on location, often in anniversary years. He has undertaken several commissions for the BBC, Buckingham Palace for the Royal Collection all painted on location ; and his series of 30 works commissioned by the Tower of London are all permanently reproduced throughout Tower Hill Underpass, at Tower Hill Station, London.
Working from early morning until late afternoon, Whatley completed the oil painting of the striking glass structure designed by Foster & Partners in 2001 and its environment on the day; and the complete painting will follow....
