Venus in New York. 2018 by Stephen B. Whatley
"Venus in New York"....a new charcoal drawing by expressionist artist Stephen B. Whatley's love of New York City; and the USA in general. He worked from two drawings made on location in the city in 2015, after a visit to the Museum of Modern Art. The view is of West 53rd Street, close by; including a statue of the Venus de Milo.
Since the artist's first visit in 2010 and in subsequent years he has been making drawings around the city which are gradually inspiring tributes in oils, pastel and charcoal with the hope that will eventually come together to form an exhibition, "New York City ~ An Artist's Perspective" - maybe in New York itself.
The art of Stephen B. Whatley has been published in the American press including TIME magazine, the New York Times & USA TODAY.
"In so many ways I see New York City as an urban Grand Canyon…" ~ Stephen B. Whatley
