Artist Stephen B. Whatley Painting Buckingham Palace in June 1999

Expressionist artist Stephen B. Whatley on location in London in June 1999 painting Changing The Guard at Buckingham Palace - commissioned by The Royal Collection of HM Queen Elizabeth II.

This was one of two paintings of Buckingham Palace commissioned from the artist, jointly by the Royal Collection & London Underground Ltd, to be reproduced on London Underground posters advertising the Summer Opening of Buckingham Palace in 1999 and 2000.

The painting was created throughout one day, capturing the daily tradition of Changing of The Guard earlier in the day, in the courtyard - and the original hangs today in Buckingham Palace.

There is a permanent walkway of the series of 30 paintings by Stephen B. Whatley, commissioned by the Tower of London, just outside Tower Hill Station.
