Served in Texas Army in Galveston guarding against Santa Anna 2
I was searching on-line and came across a repository of documents dating back to the Republic of Texas. I think it is sponsored by UT. Anyhow, I found quite a few documents related to my great, great, great grandfather, Jackson Smith, co-founder of Jacksonville, Texas in Cherokee County. In this document he is petitioning for a pension from his service in the Republic of Texas Army. It states that he served in New Orleans and Galveston guarding against Santa Anna. It also states that he emigrated to Texas from Kentucky in 1814.
