Sagrada Família – The Soul of Barcelona

I had carried this composition in my mind for a long time.

A deliberate departure from the usual postcard clichés – and as far as I know, no photograph with this exact framing exists online, only distant approximations.

There is exactly one spot in Barcelona where the Sagrada Família is perfectly framed by the surrounding buildings at noon – and it’s only accessible with a special reservation. Without it, the terrace remains closed to the public.

Capturing this view in a single shot would have been impossible.

Even a 28mm lens couldn’t fit the basilica entirely into the frame. Only by combining six vertical images taken at 14 mm was this perspective achievable – including the spatial depth I had envisioned. A custom rectilinear projection helped preserve the natural look of a single-lens photo. I wanted it to feel like a single lens shot, not a panorama.

With this photograph, I hoped to create something timeless and new.

Whether I succeeded is up to others to decide.

But for me, there is no more dignified way to see the Sagrada Família.

I hope it speaks to you – even if just a little.
