What I need is a coil winder. This old thing is a Uhing Rolling Ring Drive and it's tailor made for back and forth winding of stuff onto spools. I got it years ago when I was studying mechanisms for intermittent motion. I used it for a demo at Maker Faire until it died last year. It's now been repaired.
