Michigan Central Station
a post-industrial nightmare.
had the idea last night/this morning to pay MCS a visit to take some of the usual shots in a different light. i really need to find my lost flashlight. anyho... stumbled out of the basement into the concourse and was greeted with a MCS i haven't known in years, one filled with terror, almost enough to make being there thrilling again. almost. the familiar spaces were nearly pitch black. street light cast strange patterns on the walls. all in all, a beautiful but horrible world. i ignored the howling winds and made my way up to the chosen perch for the first photo, the waiting room overlook.
it took three tries, a hour, and a fifteen minute exposure to get a pic i was pleased with. for the first few minutes of waiting for the camera i took in the dark and sinister beauty, unable to believe i've been able to come here at will for nine years. then i got bored and started to think about depressing life things. but before long all i could think about was how cold it was and how wonderfully warm the car would be. the camera felt the same. two freshly charged batteries died from the cold. three shots, an hour, and two batteries died???!!! so yeah, after getting this one shot, i called it a night. the other shots i want can wait until spring. not like the MCS is going anywhere...
anyho, it may have been painfully cold, but the shot came out nice methinks.
