Linda Malden "Spring Ridge" station, 24 January 1944 / photographed by N. Herfort
76 years ago 23-year-old Linda Malden was managing her ageing parents 2,200-acre property and taking on tasks previously done by men. In addition to ploughing, drilling, harvesting and droving she killed and dressed the mutton for meals and tended the household garden. In this picture, Linda is captured 'taking a break' from the heavy labour to oil the windmill.
