Spa Complex, Scarborough. Scarborough Jazz Festival 2009 at the Grand Hall in the Spa Complex. On-stage the Ryan Quigley Quartet give one of the free events on the first afternoon of the Festival. The Spa opened in 1880, replacing an earlier building which had been destroyed in a fire. It was designed by Verity & Hunt. The Grand Hall was the largest of the spaces in the complex, but at a very late stage of building, the Winter Garden (aka Floral Lounge) was converted to a theatre and therefore opened slightly after the main hall. The Spa had a major restoration in 1981 and another in 2010/11, after this image was taken. Grade 2* listed.
