Stephen Joseph Theatre 2955

The former Odeon, now Stephen Joseph Theatre, in Scarborough in March 2009 during the National Student Drama Festival. Opened in 1936 and designed by Cecil Clavering, the Odeon seated 1,711 in stalls and circle. The interior plasterwork was by Mollo & Egan. It closed in 1988 and was grade 2 listed. It was later transformed into the Stephen Joseph Theatre, (The Round and the dual-purpose theatre/cinema McCarthy) restoring the exterior and foyers, but losing much of the auditorium - some of the plasterwork was rescued and reused in the McCarthy. The SJT opened in April 1996.
