Textured

Textured - It's truly amazing the level of detail many modern cameras resolve. While I enjoyed taking more compositional images of this male Allen's Hummingbird, towards the end, I noticed he was very comfortable with people. So I swapped to my zoom and quietly waited closer to his perch to capture a closeup.

I really liked this look back pose as he checked if any other hummingbirds were encroaching on his patch. Male, female, Allen's, or Anna's he didn't discriminate - gave them all the aggressive treatment. Towards the end of the morning I noticed his chest heaving as he was exerting so much energy chasing everybody.

Recently, I've been focusing primarily on enjoying my time outdoors rather than goalsetting for images. I find that this approach is more liberating. That being said I'd love to try for some flight shots next time I visit this guy.
