The birds are quiet, only one or two are left flying around. Frogs begin their nightly conversations. The only other sound is the intermittent splash of a beaver diving and resurfacing behind us. Just a few minutes ago, in a clearing in the bullrushes right in front us, a deer took a drink of water.
