Ripple Royalty

A single duck glides across a rippled surface, its yellow beak pointed forward like it’s on a mission—or at least pretending to be. The plumage is a speckled mix of browns and darker markings, detailed enough to make any textile designer jealous. The water reflects light in soft textures, giving the whole scene a painterly calm.

I spotted it while scanning the shoreline, camera ready, hoping for something majestic. Instead, I got attitude. The duck floated past like it owned the lake, barely acknowledging my presence. I framed the shot just as it paused, perfectly still, like it knew I needed exactly three seconds of cooperation. The result? A portrait of quiet confidence and unapologetic duckness.
