Sundog & Suncat! 05/05/16

Between 7pm and 8pm BST, we had lots of different atmospheric optics visible from North Oxfordshire. The first to appear were a lovely pair of parhelia (sundogs) and what was really interesting was the totally different morphology between the parhelia on each side of the Sun. The contrail shadows that were visible from around 8pm onwards were some of the best I've ever seen! We had a breif display of an upper tangent arc which was the most colourful I've ever seen.

Most photos taken on this evening were taken with a Canon 1100D with 18-55mm lens, but the 2 contrail shadow photos were taken with a Samsung Galaxy S5 mobile phone camera
