Mulwala Museum Australia - Linotype & Heidelberg Printing Machine

Just like old times finding these two machines. I used both when printing and was the last apprentice through the Melbourne College Of Printing & Grapic Arts who was taught the art of hot metal composition as a printer / newspaper man. Alas another trade that has died out following the computer age although i don't miss the sqirts of hot lead when something went wrong with the spacebands. Needless to say that all operators had castors on their chairs and when you heard that clunk and ssshhhhhh sound you pushed back off the machine and let your wheels do the talking. How time flys, 24 years since the old Daylesford advocate was printed in town and shifted to Ballarat to the new age of offset printing. AAHHHHhhh Memories
