Mallet

The final product, sitting atop a couple pieces of its former skin. I believe the wood is magnolia, harvested from a tree that fell during Hurricane Ike.

The mallet measures 13.75 inches long. The head is 4 inches wide at the top, tapering to 3.75 inches at the bottom. It is finished with a coat of paste wax to help preserve the surface.

The balance is pretty good. Holding it at the very base gives me a good solid swing. Holding it near the neck allows for a more controlled tap.

I estimate the weight at about 2 lbs.
