An operation to transfer exhumed bodies from Paris's overcrowded cemeteries to three disused quarries under the streets of the city began in 1785. One of the tunnels is now a museum. The whole network is 300 km long! According to "Time Out Paris", the bones of 6 million people are in the catacombes, including those of Robespierre and Marat.
