MORE BARN! The Drift - MFA Contextual Practice Seminar (S12)
May 10, 2012
Under 16th street Bridge, Pgh, PA
"I once went down to Neil (Young)’s ranch and he rowed me out into the middle of the lake — putting my life in his hands once again. He waved at someone invisible and music started to play, in the countryside. I realized Neil had his house wired as the left speaker, and h...is barn wired as the right speaker. And Elliot Mazer, his engineer, said ‘How is it?’ And Neil shouted back…’More Barn!’"
Intended to simultaneously evoke a riverboat concert and gospel at the water's edge, More Barn situates itself at the confluence of American music, its associated rituals, and the place that everyone knows is Nowhere. Young Neal has traded in a stage for the Drift barge, guitar amplifiers for car stereos in order create an otherworldly space for the reception of music and its spiritualisms.
Young Neal will board The Drift on May 10th, down by the river underneath the 16th St Bridge in The Strip. Viewers are invited to watch the waterborne concert from the riverside, or board a vessel and join Young Neal afloat on the immortal currents of classic rock.
