LEGO Star Wars is celebrating its 20th anniversary with special events in Toronto, including a display at Union Station with a record-breaking 36,440 LEGO Stormtrooper minifigures.

The Force will be strong in Toronto in August as LEGO Star Wars celebrates its 20th anniversary with some special experiences in the city.

You can check out a record-breaking display of 36,440 LEGO Stormtrooper minifigures at Union Station from Monday, Aug. 19 to Sunday, Aug. 25, just west of the Great Hall at street level.

“I had the opportunity to combine my design skills with my most cherished childhood toy almost 13 years ago, and I have never looked back,” Stockwell said in a statement announcing the anniversary celebrations. “LEGO play and Star Wars is a dream collaboration, and it is really special that we are taking the celebration to Toronto as I grew up in Ontario and studied design in this amazing city. One of the most incredible driving forces behind our designs for the past 20 years are the incredible, loyal fans that continue to inspire us. We can’t wait for what comes next!”

First introduced at the International Toy Fair in New York in February 1999, the 20-year legacy of LEGO Star Wars is also being celebrated with five new special edition throwback sets. The LEGO Star Wars collaboration, the LEGO Group’s first intellectual property franchise, has spawned approximately 700 sets and 1,000 LEGO Star Wars minifigures, as well as five video games, several television and online series and lots of other fun merchandise.

“Our collaboration with the LEGO Group remains a huge success because it allows people to explore the Star Wars galaxy in a very unique way,” Derek Stothard, vice president of licensing at Lucasfilm, said in the statement. “Whether you’re meticulously building the Millennium Falcon for a display shelf or reimagining the battles with LEGO Star Wars models, the LEGO Star Wars range allows us to engage with fans of all ages who find the Star Wars galaxy as special as we do.”
