Video of growing branches of the respiratory system of a fruit fly embryo. The tracheal system of insects consist of branched tubular networks that function as a respiratory organ to supply oxygen to various target organs, similarly to the mammalian lung and vascular system.

Cell junctions visualized with alpha-catenin GFP fluorescent protein, false colored.

Time-lapse movie with interval of 5 minutes, acquired with Zeiss LSM880 Confocal Microscope, magnification 40x, zoom 2.5x, looped.
