get yourself a good sturdy back basket on your bike. We bought a car harness from 'ezydog' but there are plenty of brands out there. Using some cable ties, secure the harness strap to the basket base. It's a good idea to put the cable ties around one of the stronger bottom bars as well. I've done it so if you want to take it off (to use in the car, for instance), you can unwind from the cable ties without having to cut them.
