The Greens
After a sumptuous dinner at the tavern of the Inn On the Coast of Portrush (pronounced port rush) on our first night there, Northern Ireland blessed us with this brilliant sunset. What you may perceive as Irish green is actually the greens of Ballyreagh Golf Course. Golf came after St. Patrick, though I believe he would have seen this as the sign it was. We would see the evidence of that over the coming days getting to know Irish friends Joyce and I had only known online before. Though St. Patrick is the Patron Saint of Ireland, he was not Irish. When he was a young boy in England, he was kidnapped and enslaved in Ireland. He would eventually escape enslavement as a shepherd, come to Christ, join the ranks of Christian clergy, and make his place in history. Ireland holds a special place in bringing Christianity to the world. It holds a special place for me, too. During one of our trips to the U.K., I got my results back from 23 & Me… I’m 99.9% Northwestern European, with 61.5% British & Irish. And right there I have an affinity with St, Patrick, the fact that the Irish have captured our hearts, notwithstanding. Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
