Bright Waters
I put myself on assignment this week to find color in the waters of the North Carolina Mountains… it’s hard work, but someone has to do it (yeah, right!). This was taken along the area of the North Fork of the French Broad River that parallels NC Highway 215 for a good ways. This trail features more than a few waterfalls, ending at Bird Rock Falls (also known as Cathedral Falls). While the falls can be quite nice, I was just as happy to find this. Since this was such a long exposure (30 seconds at an equivalent 12 iso... the wind was kind to me as well) to even out the rippling water for better color, I was actually able to “dodge” out the brightness of the sunlit trees by passing my fingers back and forth through that area just in front of the lens for the first 20 seconds… it worked! Which is a good thing… I looked all over for those French broads, but this is all I left with. Sometimes it’s best that I’m not left to my own devices.
