FLOOD AFFECTEES 2011 – NAUKOT & KHTLARY, THARPARKAR, SINDH

I had an opportunity to be therein in the flood affected areas of Sindh during 2nd - 6th September, 2011, and had seen several relief camps set there either by the government or NGOs or by the people on self-help basis. The pictures of two of these camps there at KHATLARY and NAUKOT which I have captured and would like to share few out of them with you.

The recent rain fall has devastated the livings of the inhabitants of Mithi, Badin, Umarkot, Jamshoro, Dadu, Naukot, Mirpurkhas, Jhado, Nawabshah, Nara, Thari Mir Wah and many other cities of the south eastern region of Sindh and the enraging flood has ruined the villages and forced about 600,000 people to opt for a gypsy living. An area of About 1,600,000 acres agricultural land with the harvest has come under the flood water destroying all the crops and wiping out hundred of thousand of villages which once were existing there.

The flood affectees are spending days into these relief camps without sufficient food and clean drinking water resources, their children are having no cloth, the makeshift arrangements for the living they have adopted for are such fragile that a single wind wave wrecks the shelter of their shabby homes and thus leaving them to get wet under the heavy showers for hours. They somehow have brought with them their livestock which too is experiencing the similar circumstances -though these animals are a source only as to relieve these people of theirs miseries to some extent.

These flood affectees are living a distressed life in their these own made relief camps and awaits for the help from the world around.
