The Church of the Carmen was a gothic church located in the Puigmercadal de Manresa. Its construction began in 1322 by the master Berenguer de Montagut, architect of la Seu and Santa Maria del Mar in Barcelona, forming part of the convent of the Carmelite friars. It counts the tradition that in this church took place the February 21 of 1345 the Miracle of the light: the apparition of a mysterious light, that came from the mountain of Montserrat until the church of the Carmen.
Initiated the same year that la Seu, it was erect in the place where was been the Castle of Puigmercadal. In 1337 the first chapel was built, but it was not until end of 15th century that finished works of the temple. The construction was of an only navep with six sections of vaults, polygonal apse of seven faces and lateral chapels between the abutments. Also it had clauster of gothic style, smaller and more elaborated than the present one.
The building, unfortunately, was demolished stone by stone the months of September and October of 1936 during the civil war by the brigades of unavoidable unemployment. At the moment it has been replaced by an unfinished neogothic building. During the demolition, the manresan Lluís Rubiralta i Garriga discovered, while he made the last photographies of the church, a set of 66 objects of ceramics of great value of 14th century, that are known with the name of Manresan Ceramics.
As curiosity in the church had established diverse old guilds like the carriers and the farmers.

La Iglesia del Carmen fue una iglesia gótica ubicada en el Puigmercadal de Manresa. Su construcción comenzó en 1322 por el maestro Berenguer de Montagut, arquitecto de la Seu y de Santa María del Mar en Barcelona, formando parte del convento de los frailes carmelitas. Cuenta la tradición que en esta iglesia tuvo lugar el 21 de febrero de 1345 el Milagro de la luz: la aparición de una luz misteriosa, que vino de la montaña de Montserrat hasta la iglesia del Carmen.
Iniciada el mismo año que la Seu, se levantó en el lugar donde había estado el Castillo de Puigmercadal. En 1337 ya estaba construída la primera capilla, pero no fue hasta finales del siglo XV que se acabaron las obras del templo. La construcción era de una única nave con seis tramos de bóvedas, ábside poligonal de siete caras y capillas laterales entre los contrafuertes. También tenía un claustro de estilo gótico, más pequeño y más elaborado que el actual.
El edificio, desgraciadamente, fue derruido piedra a piedra los meses de septiembre y octubre de 1936 durante la guerra civil por las brigadas de paro forzoso. Actualmente ha sido reemplazado por un edificio neogótico inacabado. Durante el derribo, el manresano Lluís Rubiralta i Garriga descubrió, mientras hacía las últimas fotografías de la iglesia, un conjunto de 66 objetos de cerámica del siglo XIV de gran valor, que se conocen con el nombre de Cerámica Manresana.
Como curiosidad en la iglesia había establecidos diversos gremios antiguos como los arrieros y los campesinos.
