Rio Grande Sand Bar

The Rio Grand River at the Conejos / Costilla County line. The river carves into the volcanic soil and begins its dramatic drop into New Mexico. This gorge was a major obstacle to travel back in the days of the raiding Conquistadors and the Pueblo Indians.
