Scind Punjab & Delhi Railway
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scinde,_Punjab_%26_Delhi_Railway
The Scinde, Punjab, Delhi Railway inherited the unfortunate reputation as being one of the worst managed private railway companies. Given its reputation in the 1860s and 1870s for discord, shady and inept contractors and financial irregularities, it is surprising that the SP&DR did not pass into public ownership sooner than 31 December 1885.
However, this quote is not referenced.
Apparently it was the first railway company in India to introduce platform tickets

Having found you excellent website I wondered if you can help me. I am researching my family tree and know that my Great grandfather was connected with the Kotree Sind Ferry/Railway and would like to find out more.
His name was Richard Tickner (born abt 1838) married to Catherine Josephine Hankinson (born 1847) in 1866 in Bombay.
I believe that his wife died in Kotree in 1877 and Richard returned to the UK.
Any information regarding to his life or work would be welcome.
Many thanks
The line was discontinuous, with a long stretch of Indus river betwen Kotri and Multan
iFirst section between Karachi and Kotri, just west of Hyderabad, [bypassing some very convoluted Indus delta streams] and also between Multan and Amritsar via Lahore, later extended from Amritsar to Delhi from 1863, when the Scinde railway became the SP&DR
