Silver City Connection

Two of these shots were taken well before dawn in the dark, and the last one was just after sunrise. The main shot is strait-out-of-the-camera, with light from the full moon providing the only illumination. The morning was quite chilly, but the photo shoot was was enormously fun! As always, the sunrise was beautiful.

The Guffey Bridge is Idaho’s largest historic artifact and is the only Parker-Through-Truss Railroad Bridge in the state. It was designed to facilitate the hauling of gold and silver ore from the Silver City mines at the turn of the 20th century, thus providing a connection across the Snake River from the mining town to Nampa, Boise, and the rest of the world. Ironically, the bridge was never used for the purpose for which it was designed. The 450-ton steel structure is 70 feet tall and spans 500 feet over the river. The bridge was abandoned in 1947, saved from demolition in the1970s and purchased and restored by Canyon County in 1989, and is now part of Celebration Park near Melba, Idaho.
