Gorilla Family - Washington (2018)

These are the gorillas (silverback: Baraka) currently living at the Smithsonian National Zoo in Washington (DC), United States.

Color Key - Yellow frames: family group, grey frames: bachelor group. – Black: males, red: females, grey: non-residents (with their respective locations) or deceased. – Arrows pointing from parents to their offspring.

Please note: Baraka's full name is Baraka Ya Mwelu. He was raised by Mandara as his foster mother. Kibibi, the zoo's latest offspring, was sired by Kwame with his own mother Mandara. Kibibi means "little lady" in Swahili. — The two groups rotate in the indoor and outdoor enclosures.

This chart is based on the interactive online Gorilla Studbook by James R. Davis and the official International Studbook, published by Frankfurt Zoo.
