The Hotel Room

they told me this is a non-smoking room

but I can smell the smoke left over from before

i like the way they fold the end of the toilet paper

and sometimes I do that at home just to pretend

i live in a hotel with maid service

i always wonder what they do with the left over

soaps and shampoos from the rooms

do the maids take them home

do they give it to the homeless

there is never enough electrical plugs for

my cell phones, camera battery charger, and laptop

i woke up middle of the night with

something poking me in the face

it was one of the down feathers

protruding through the pillow case

i thought it was a bug biting me

why did they give me two room keys when they

know I am here alone

they are too silly

i always end up waking up at 4 AM

when I am away from home

is there something special about 4 AM

i would put my shoes out to be shined but

worried i will not get it back in the morning

or they will laugh at my old shoes

and give it away to goodwill

i secretly hope they will fix the sole which is

coming apart from the top

i should have just super glued it before the trip

i brought an extra pair of underwear with me

but not sure why

i must have counted the number of days wrong

it is funny that I sleep on the same side of the bed

as I do at home

I just can’t sleep in the middle of the bed

it has to be the left side

there is nothing like your own bed and pillow

I miss them

I miss you
