African shoppers buying fabrics to ship back home for resale. Initially such designs were based on ideas given to local Guangdong manufacturers by Africans, but as the Chinese have become familiar with African tastes, they have begun to produce their own African-influenced designs.
Tianxiu Tower Trading Mall, Xiaobei, Guangzhou, Nov 2008
The full project can be viewed as an e-book on my website here
The documentary has also been used editorially in Hong Kong's SCMP, and published as a five-page photo essay in the Guangzhou newspaper Southern Metropolis Daily 南方都城日, available online here, in Chinese. epaper.nddaily.com/C/html/2009-05/23/node_929.htm
